Background and HistoryJotne EPM Technology is a spin-off from Jotne EPM Consultants and was founded
in December of 1994. Jotne EPM Consultants was incorporated in 1982 and is a highly respected and experienced European Consulting and design house and is a power user of CAx application.
Jotne EPM Technology's mission is to develop and market software products based upon the ISO 10303 Standard for Product Data Representation and exchange - STEP, and Express, for use in application areas such as STEP, CALS, PSOC, PDIX, GIS, PDM and EDI. As part of the introduction of STEP-based products and technology to users, EPM Technology offers companies on-site consulting in the application and implementation of STEP and Express-based technology. The product development is done by a team of engineers with extensive design experience from Mechanical Components and Systems, Process Control, Manufacturing Industry, Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration/Production and Automation using state-of-the-art CAx applications. In addition, the development team employs highly experienced software architects with background in Client/Server computing, object oriented technologies and systems and database design. TechnologyThe requirements specification and implementation of EXPRESS Data Manager has been part of major European R&D projects and been under development by EPM Consultants since 1989.Jotne EPM's core technology has been developed over 6 years and is based on an Express implementation of the Express language itself. Jotne EPM Technology is the first and only company implementing a complete database management system - EXPRESS Data Manager - designed for the storage, manipulation and access to both data models and product models according to the STEP standard. Compared to relational as well as Object oriented database systems, this implementation gives superior performance and increased functionality for implementing Express information models. Through EDMInterface which is a superset of 10303 Part 22 - Standard Data Access Interface, the access to Express information requires no mapping, or transformation from the conseptual Express model to the implemented model in the database. Consulting ServicesConsulting is offered to companies and organizations which require assistance in the use of Express-based technology and Products. Examples of Product Application AreasManufacturing Industries such as Automotive, Aerospace, Electronics, Computers, defense, covering applications such as specifications, design, product engineering, manufacturing, logistics Systems Integrators for the defense and aerospace industries Pharmaceutical Industry for applications such as new drug development/applications, long term archiving, etc. Research ProgramsJotne EPM Technology continues the extensive work done by EPM Consultants in ESPRIT research projects. These projects are partly financed by the European Community. EPM Technology has been engaged in the PRODEX project (budget is USD 10 million) which ran from July 1992 through June 1995. PRODEX has demonstrated the use of STEP for the exchange of product data between different systems for mechanical design and analysis in the manufacturing industry. 12 European CAD and Finite Element Analysis System vendors and 5 system integrators cooperated in this effort. Later ESPRIT projects includes VEGA, VePrim, WIT, Merci, Globeman, eConstruct and others.
