BARBi - The Norwegian building and construction industry's reference data library

Published 2001-06-20
BARBi is a project initiated by the Norwegian construction industry to establish a reference data library with a complete collection of all concepts and objects from the building and construction industry with associated properties and relationships.

The library will contain everything from complete constructions down to indiv-idual parts or products. Resources, activities and references to standards, class-ification tables and applica-tion protocols like Ifc (International Alliance for Interoperability, Industry Foun-dation Classes) and STEP-APs (Standard for The Exchange of Product model data, Application Protocol) will be included in the library. The Norwegian Building Research Institute has a central role in the development of the library and EPMT is working in close cooperation with Norwegian and international organizations involved with similar projects. The work is coordinated internationally from the Nor-wegian Council for Building Standardisation.

During the latest phase of the BARBi project, the first generation of tools and browsers necessary to populate and browse the BARBi library were developed using EPM's EXPRESS Data Manager™ combined with spreadsheets developed in the EPISTLE project and Java Server Page technology for web publishing.
