Building industry enters IFC eraPublished 2006-04-04
The building industry is moving rapidly towards the adoption of the IFC building models. The industry is also exploring building information management using advanced database technology to support contractual data interchange. These are important, innovative process improvements that are not only enhancing communication and cooperation but also proving very cost effective.

Introducing the buildingSMART initiative at a conference in Oslo in 2005, was a milestone for the 10-year development of IFC and represents a major move towards extended collaboration in the built environment. In Norway, two pilot projects are being coordinated by buildingSMART– the Tromsø University College and the Akershus University Hospital. In Singapore, the Fornax ePlanChecker, based on EDMserver™, is being rolled out by the Building and Construction Authority. The Norwegian National Office for Building Technology and Administration (BE) has included Fornax ePlanChecker as part of its ByggSøk submission system. Jotne EPM Technology is participating in the buildingSMART development by providing the EDMmodelServer™ as the primary technology for managing a complete and consistent database for sharing information between players in the built environment. |
