EDMmodelConverter™

The EDMmodelConverter' enables you to convert data described by one EXPRESS schema into a format described by another EXPRESS schema.

When the conversion is complete, the new model is ready to be used in the database, exported as a STEP physical file, or loaded into another database of any type (relational, object oriented, etc.). This can be useful, for example, if you need to map and translate data between two or more databases.

The conversion is done according to a mapping schema written in EXPRESS-X, the language used to describe the conditions for conversion. The EDMmodelConverter™ is a complete interpreter of the EXPRESS-X language which is, basically, EXPRESS (ISO 10303-Part 11) plus additional constructs.

The EDMmodelConverter™ with EXPRESS-X has many advantages. Among other things, this combination:

  • makes it easy to develop translators to any database system as well as any advanced data-warehouse application.
  • makes it easy to maintain translators because EXPRESS-X is independent of any implementation.
  • enables you to define the mapping for data exchange - traditionally hard coded - in an external mapping schema based on EXPRESS-X.
  • provides a fast, reliable path for any bulk conversion that may be required.
  • enables you to easily handle data (read, write, modify, etc.) described by multiple schemata.

The EDMmodelConverter includes an EXPRESS-X compiler to validate the mapping schema and set up a dictionary model which is the definition for the actual conversion process. The data model that results from the conversion is saved automatically in the EDM database. It can be exported as a STEP physical file (ISO 10303-Part 21) and, thus, used by virtually any system.
