News from Techmate - EPM Technology's Korean partnerPublished 1998-10-27
Since its startup in 1986, Techmate has shown a rapid growth in investment, facilities and work force. Its main busi-ness has been in the military communications field, supplying both the Korean armed forces and other defense system vendors. The company has won recognition as a leading supplier not only by military organisations, but also from major companies such as Hyundai, Daewoo and Samsung.
Techmate has recently expanded its interests to include test system integration. It has also recruited additional software staff to support the Koreanisation and custom-isation of diagnostic system applications to meet customers requirements. This enlarged team includes specialists in STEP, SGML, IETM and CALS as well as in document management systems and databases. Success for EDMOn July 16th 1998, Techmate Corporation participated in a STEP event held in Seoul, Korea. The meeting involved both CAD vendors SDRC, UG, IBM and SolidDesigner and STEP tool vendors Techmate (EDM) and STEP Tools ( ST-Developer).The meeting addressed two issues:
Techmate focused on validating the STEP file written by each CAD systems using AP203 and exporting Korean characters into EDM. The validation was successful except for some PERSON entity instances in the STEP file from IDEAS-6.0 master series. The reason for this is now being investigated. Not all of the CAD systems tested supported the export of Korean characters into a STEP file. Of the STEP tools tested, only EDM can import & export Korean without losing charac- ters using 'no string encoding' option. EDM provides the option of 'no string encoding' in the import and export of STEP files for transporting oriental characters (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc.). The schema and STEP files used in the test are shown below, together with the successful result.
