Ready for gas ferry deliveries

The Jotne Group designs systems and equipment using liquid natural gas (LNG) as fuel for car ferries. The Norwegian authorities, led by Veidirektoratet (the Directorate of Public Roads), has taken the initiative to test LNG for use in ferry traffic, primarily for the environmental benefits it offers. LNG produces less carbon dioxide (CO2) and poisonous nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, and there are no sulphur emissions at all.

"For many years now, we have delivered storage tanks for different types of fuel. For example, we supplied Hydro Aluminium in Årdal with tanks when they switched to LPG as an energy source," said Ole Martin Moe, managing director of Jotne SB-Verksted in Drammen. Jotne SB-Verksted is the leading supplier of tanks and pressure vessels to both onshore and offshore projects.

"LNG systems for ferry traffic are right on target for us. We can supply entire pipe systems with evaporators and everything else needed from the moment the liquified gas comes onboard to when it enters the motor."
