Rolling Stock, a growing market for Jotne

In recent years, rolling stock has been a growing market for the Jotne Group.

"We deliver everything from design to manufacturing," says Håvard Grønbeck, here in one of NSB's workshops.

"We deliver everything from engineering, design and strength analyses to project management and manufacturing," says Håvard Grønbeck, department manager of EPM Consultants.

Among EPM Consultants' customers are the Norwegian State Railways (NSB), AS Oslo Sporveier, Adtranz and Mitrans. Engineers from the Jotne Group have helped design the interior of several types of trains that are in daily use in Norway. Flåmsbanen, which travels the scenic stretch between Myrdal in the mountains and Flåm on the fjord is one example. The new high-speed train to Oslo's airport has also received engineering support from EPM Consultants.

Technical limitations, limited space, and requirements for passengers' comfort and safety are keywords in their work. "We use EPM Consultants because they are creative and work rapidly," says Bogdan Popa, technical manager at Mitrans in Drammen.

Jotne Fremo has manufactured a number of frames used by NSB to service train wheels. The company has also delivered equipment to lift and turn wheel and axel sets with disc brakes. EPM Consultants has been extensively involved in these projects and has also helped NSB plan and design the layout of production lines in their maintenance workshop.

When Oslo Sporveier recently introduced a new type of tram they received complaints from passengers as well as residents living near the tram lines. "There is screeching at certain speeds when the trams accelerate and slow down, and our engineers, assisted by acoustics and power electronics experts, have looked into this," says Grønbeck.

Flåmsbanen

The Jotne Group helped design design the magnetic rail brakes, passenger facilities and much more for Flåmsbanen's carriages, travelling the scenic stretch between Myrdal and Flåm.
