Training classes

As part of our Business Partner Program, we offer training in STEP and EXPRESS-based technology on introductory and advanced levels. We also provide customized courses tailored to suit your organization's particular needs.

All our classes include examples and hands-on experience, and we also welcome discussions about problems and topics pertaining to your organization.

The following training classes are conducted in Oslo on a regular basis:

Class 1: Management introduction to PLCS, IFC, STEP:

Product Data Technology (electronic solutions for areas such as PDM, ERP, MRP, CM, ILS, GIS, etc.) is considered to be vital for enterprise integration needed to meet the changing market requirements. ISO TC 184/SC4 is considered to be a generic solution for "product data representation and exchange" and is today implemented in most industries.

This class gives an introduction to PLCS, IFC, STEP, the technology and a walk-through of case-studies in different industries.

Expected benefits: Develop an understanding for the concept of the STEP standard and the business benefits; be introduced to the EXPRESS data definition language; and learn about application protocols.
Target Audience: Managers (IT, PDM, ILS, CAD, ERP, MRP), system integrators, supervisors and others with an interest in the STEP standard.
Duration: 1 day
Course fee:
EUR 500 / person, including course material and lunch.

Class 2: Introduction to the EXPRESS language (ISO 10303 Part 11)

As part of STEP or ISO 10303, the EXPRESS data definition language has a key position for defining all parts of the standard that are targeted at implementation. There are more than 30 industry-specific data models available in STEP today. The use of the EXPRESS language is also emerging outside STEP.

Expected benefits: This class gives a well balanced introduction to the language and the objective is to make the student basic knowledge about EXPRESS data models. Hands-on training with tools is also available.
Target Audience: System integrators, data managers, standards developers, programmers
Recommended background: Some experience with (object-oriented) data modeling or programming would be an advantage, but not a requirement.
Duration: 2 days
Course fee:
EUR 800 / person, including course material and lunch.

Class 3: EXPRESS / SDAI / EXPRESS-X Implementation Course

This class gives a well balanced introduction to implementation methods and the objective is to make the student able to interface existing or new applications with STEP and learn to make use of the SDAI and EXPRESS-X functionalities.

Expected benefits: Ability to develop own EXPRESS data models; implement datamodels; integrate data exchange packages through mapping with EXPRESS-X; and validate data.
Target Audience: Data modellers, application developers, CAX and PDM managers
Recommended background: A good understanding of programming and the EXPRESS language.
Duration: 3 + 1 (optional) days
Course fee: EUR 1200 (optional day EUR 250) per person including course material and lunch.

The main topics to be covered are:

Class 4: EDMserver™

The workshop will give an overview to the EDMserver™ concepts and how to deploy a Product Model Server that can be used for IFC, STEP, PLCS and other International, Open and Public available standards. Introduction to database configurations, client/server and application interoperability will be highlighted as well as installation and database administration

Expected benefits: The attendee will be able to understand how to manage, deploy and manage a Product Model Server. Ability to connect own applications to the server.
Target Audience: System integrators, data managers, standards developers, programmers.
Recommended background: Some experience with (object-oriented) data modeling or programming would be an advantage, but not a requirement.
Duration: 2 + 1 (optional) days
Course fee: EUR 800 (optional day EUR 250) per person including course material and lunch.
